If you’ve ever had bibimbap* (rice bowls) at a Korean restaurant, you’ll most certainly have had gochujang sauce served to you on the side to mix in. It’s spicy, it’s sweet, it’s tangy and it’s delicious. Our version is totally vegan, but it has a depth of flavor made possible by fermentation. When you incorporate this sauce into your menu, its rich savory umami flavor will satiate your tastebuds in a way that will surprise you.
You can eat this sauce traditionally by mixing it in with rice bowls, but we like to be unconventional sometimes and mix it in with ketchup or mayo to add an extra layer of flavor. I guess you could say we use it like you would mustard. It is so good. You won’t regret it!
Btw, there are all kinds of bibimbap out there, but our favorite kind is dolsot bibimbap. It’s a bowl of rice and veggies that sizzle in a hot stone pot, leaving you with yummy toasted rice at the end.
